BILLDOH wrote:Geez Moto! Whatsa matter? U forget where the hall is or what? We don't all eat, breathe, and sleep longshoring, but we do pay a little attention and make it somewhat of a priority in the midst of everything else we gotta deal with in our lives. Those of us that are here and know the answer to that question have made an effort, and that was all that was asked of those who haven't and are asking the question. That's the difference. If they had, they wouldn't be asking that question, they would already know the answer. BTW - The one year club is now attending regularly at the casual hall if u wanna join them and haven't already.
As for your signature line - Welcome to the waterfront! Take it or leave it! (and yes, I AM special... I'm BillDOH! Just ask anyone else here! They know I'm special!! LOL!!) Hey Bill I know you're special. My post was more of a snipe at the members of "The View" here who feel that if you need to make adjustments in your life that puts casualing on the back burner, you should have your casual card pulled. What?!? They know each casuals circumstance? If the casual hall was rolling 5 or 6 letters a day, or even a week on a regular basis and you can't squeeze in a day every 6 months then yeah maybe you need to evaluate your reasoning for having a card. But when it's been as slow as it's been for as long as it has, there are more then enough of these cackeling hens on Eubank to cover the work, and take up the slack left by those who had to find employment elsewhere until the time comes thay can commit to devoting more time to being a casual. There some who are struggling to make ends meet and don't have the time to play guess where it's going to end at the casual hall, by taking a day off, risking getting canned for missing a few to many days from there real job. As for anyone who comes on here to ask if anyone knows what's going on regarding if the're yanking cards for not working in what ever the given time is. That evidently is a crime now, punishable by ridicule by the court jesters. This site is no longer a vessel of information for those who want to gain info, it's a site for people who already know it all and need to boast about it. Oh and of course it has become a site for those who insist the world is going to end a week from next Friday when the RFID chips get passed out. moto you kind of sound like you are in the union already. PMA owes you a job right?
work one day in six months. go down on your day(s) off if you have a 9-5. even if you spend day and night at the hall on your days off if you don't get a job in six months you should be out.
a casual has the CHANCE to make it to the big hall not a guarantee.

If you're not serious, than quit taking the jobs and livlihoods away from those that care enough to put in a liitle time and effort. And I mean little, cause that is all it would take. No excuses.

Well I guess it's a good thing you're not in charge isnt it? Funny thing is a lot of the casuals I know that do struggle to get a day or two in every six months are more dedicated to trying to get those 1 or 2 days in, then a lot of casuals that take what they have for granted and flop on weekends or when someone is having a party. I guess you would rather work with the these casuals huh? Unless you know the situation how can you even wish anyone looses there card. Congratulations on only flopping one time here is your cookie. gotta throw my two cents in again, so like my $1 now. Some people follow the rules and some don't. Anyone who passed the 6 months should be gone. It was a rule that we all agreed to when we took the job. Times do suck but being a casual is a part time, NOT GUARANTEED job that anyone in their right mind would want. SO they make you work once every six months. Some people have chosen other things over the job they CHOSE to take but yet aren't required to work but once every 6 months. I am sure that within the last year, it has been within 2 letters of every single casual at one time over the last year. If people don't want to work. BYE BYE. More room for the people with the DESIRE to be there. I don't see this as a reason to get mad, I see it as a black or white issue. Work once every six months, or don't. Just don't complain when you don't have a casual card anymore.

casualtony wrote:i haven't worked since mothers day 09 should i worry about my card. I got another job and coming down is tuff especially with the hall so slow!! Before 02/19/2010, last time i worked was 12/22/2008. I moved out of the state and flew down every couple months to try and get out. Talk to this one chick at PMA about my situation prior to Feb 19th and she told me that everyone who hasn't worked before Dec 9th 2008 will be cut off and that they were working on a new cut off date some time around July of 09. It could be hearsay, but hey, if I were you bro, i would try to get at least one day in before the new cut off date is established and goes in effect.

I don't recommend calling the pma on this issues myself. i can hear the call now......"Hey Betty, i know you hate longshoreman and you like talking to us even less but can i bother you for a sec.....because of how slow work has been i haven't been able to pick a job up at the casual hall in probably more than six months." Betty:"Oh perfect! makes my job a little easier... Let me just cross you off the list now as long as you are on my radar". there are ways to find out if you are still active (simple $10 dollar solution: go to the pma training center and tell em you lost you casual card and need another one lol) but really the best thing to do is just go down and try and pick up a job.....if you don't get it there's your answer. as for the great debate of being there everyday rain or shine through sleet or snow, or sacrificing hours to work another full time job...... Each person has to make what they can of the opportunity presented to them. It doesn't make you more of a longshoreman because you have decided to make the sacrifices involved with going everyday, or any less of a longshoreman because you have to sacrifice hours to provide for yourself and your family. Its a crappy situation for both types of people. If you go everyday you give up everything in your life till you do get your ID. On the other hand if you have to make ends meet with another job you give up many vested years because you end up falling way behind the people who are on the verge of losing everything going down everyday. but really i think the most important thing to remember is that Joe Boggs really is a sexy man. luv you punkin

For those who haven't work for more than 6 months better get out there numbers are picking up and pma will notice that casuals are starting to work again. This year will be a much better year than last year by far.
Good luck
