I thought giving jobs out after it cycles was against union rules?????? Well, it happened less than half hour ago...started on M cycled around...then a pause and then handed out jobs from M to Q or R...somewhere in there....ANYONE CAN RELATE ON THIS..PLEASE DO!!!!!!

Yep - That's what it was... Against the rules or not, when the casual hall cycles, for whatever reason, the Dispatcher usually does what he or she can to fill the jobs and leave as little hanging in the harbor as is possible. Dispatch this AM was held up to try and get those that were there to call, and I got several, even though there was no way for me to be able to work today - at least not on the waterfront.
Flopping Sucks, but been there, done that, and bitching about it doesn't do anything either except bring others down with you. If it hurts that much, SHOW UP!

are you sure thats what happened? This is what I heard, he told everyone to call their friends to come down. "there are lots of jobs, tell your friends to come on down." He opened the window passed out a few jobs it went from M to S with about 40 jobs. He had more but waited to pass them out. He wanted the jobs to be filled and the hall not cycle. And I got there around 8:05, three minutes later he opened the window. I was about 6th in line, and Vs were in the rail. It stoped somewhere in L for the end of first D. Where it ended is from a friend that flopped he is in the letter V, missed by a few min. And then it cycled 2nd D. I might be wrong, I might be right. I was only at the hall for about 5 min, the rest of it was from my sister which has been at the window for days on end M42XX. And other info from other friends.
if God brings you to it, he'll bring you through it

dont allow yourself to be brainwashed by this "rule" propaganda... nothing is set in stone down here... this includes honoring rules when the union's/pma's credibility in regards to labor supplying is in question.. they really dont care about rules, or your position or my position inline for elevations... when it comes to covering the jobs and moving cargo... this simple rule also applies to ID elevations, personal safety, and contract negotiations....

we all know that on other occasions the window got closed when it cycled and jobs were still left and went to the next shift...BUT HEY... I don't care, it's just that they drill us about contract dos and donts and then they dismiss it when it suits them........ then throw the whole 'cycle' rule out all together..i'm fine with that. Consistency is all I ask.

MANY "OTHER" PEOPLE GOT SCREWED... no they didnt. they werent there. they wouldnt have worked no matter how many times it went around. it cycled, they flopped, deal with it. they werent there so f*ck em. if its consistency you want, you are in the wrong place my friend. as a casual, theoretically you would want to see them cycle 5 times rather than leave jobs hanging. theoretically jobs hanging means not enough casuals to cover the work. theoretically that means bring in more casuals.

Someone here has a picture of those, cause I ain't driving back there till probably Halloween now......... LOL!! Brother, life ain't fair, so why should the Casual Hall be fair?? I don't like it any more than you or anyone else that is there (key word - is there) but I also have learned to not stress over it or bitch about it, because it does nothing but cause you to have to drink all those beers at once, instead of enjoying them one at a time.... Speaking of which Naja's in Redondo (my personal favorite beer bar) is owned by a Local 13 Union Brother.... time to head out and grab a coldie.... Cheers Brother!!

Ummm...to my limited undderstang, once the C-Hall cycles all jobs go back to the big board for...what the hell ever ya call em (you know, them folks that can't call, or make it in on time). It is not the responsibility of the C-hall to fill every job. Once jobs get left hanging, often enough, then more people get books? Right? Milo, it aint about love (and I dig the way that you try to piss folks off). If you are a casual and you aint there for the dispatch...TO F-ING BAD...right? What is this, the "Love Generation"? I will leave that to Otis Redding @ Montery! Cycle... DONE! Flop??? Join the club. We all gots to eat somewhere. LOVE?!?!? It should NEVER happen. Ok...I am done now. Please, feel free to beat me and my thingking up.....even though YOU know I am right.

remember when russo handed jobs out that night for like 30 mins after it had cycled to anyone in line? that was awesome. it sucks that there is not much work USUALLY. guess this means casuals may have to actually start going to the hall again. darn. making money is lame huh.

dear sarcastic i.d. person,
the casual hall hasn't been about making money for going on two years now. i am not paying my bills from the (8) opportunities that have been available for casuals to work this year. it's been about trying to catch my letter whenever it rolls around, on average about every 60 days, as to maintain my place in line the best i can so that one day i too can join pgp 13 and get kaiser health insurance. i actually make money at another job because that boss tells me i have to show up there every day for him to pay me. and he doesn't like it when i stroll in an hour late and ask to leave early on the same day i strolled in an hour late just because i have to go to the casual hall. he especially gets grouchy when i do this days in a row and then *surprise!* i call in sick, cough cough, because i got out to work on the waterfront. i guess nobody likes being the side b*tch. they all wanna be the main mama. funny huh. but thanks for your encouraging words. keep pumping!
love,
your casual buddy

Sarcasm? Ok, here is my reality at the casual hall. I was a 446*. If I had never flopped I would have had 2100 or so hours as of December 22, 2006. I was a single mom. Sometimes I slept in, took care of my kid, went out of town and still got in with 65 hours to spare. If I hadn't gotten in, I would have had nobody to blame but myself. I was lucky to have a low draw number, passed all my tests right away and I had a sitter 90% of the time. I have heard from at least 3 people that this last cycle got them calls from their casual friends,"why didn't you call me?!?". My dad even told me I would probably only get 2 days a week when I got in back in 2004. Who would have known that it would have been like this. I am the first person to say that the last group of IDs(I am in that group) should NOT have gotten registered. Isn't it awesome that some people actually got out? . Just a heads up though, word on the street is the IDs that are coming up on 5 years, well some of them are suing. I guess they won't be elevating for awhile. So yeah, casuals may actually have to start showing up or they can sit back and ask when they are going to get registered, if PMA is going to stick to the every six month rule or maybe if there will ever be a "busy season". I think given the economic climate, getting out once a month at a part-time, OPTIONAL job is awesome.
